    Even at 69 Cliff sings in tune and with such feeling and emotion unlike some the young upstarts of today. “Here today gone tomorrow”.

    answering meyouweus69….mrsbutlerjovi is right ….but also it has to do with the fact that when you sing in a huge place …the music goes out and it takes a while for it to come back to you and the echo can sometimes throw you off so what he has in his ear keeps him singing to the immediate sound that is generated by the band.

    The reason is for the singer to be able to hear his vocals on one and the music in the other when performing live, if you don’t have good stage monitors you can’t hear the music properly and also you can’t hear your vocals and it can throw off your timing, the two allow him to hear himself so he knows he is singing right and also to hear the music to make sure he is in time with the band.
